After six financially challenging seasons the Mountain Play Board of Directors has made the strategic decision to take a hiatus from its signature production on Mount Tamalpais, giving the organization one year to focus on envisioning the Mountain Play of the future.

External challenges, including impacts from inclement weather, sustained COVID recovery, rising expenses, and a national decrease in public theater attendance, necessitate a community-wide reimagining of traditional Mountain Play program offerings on and off the mountain.

As the organization takes a pause in its usual programming, there will be a variety of opportunities for audiences, donors, sponsors and other stakeholders to engage in this renewal process. Mountain Play leaders look forward to hearing from the community through small group listening sessions, focus groups, surveys, and special musical events throughout the year.

We are excited to begin working towards a goal of strengthening the foundation and securing a healthy future for the next generation of the Mountain Play the tradition. We want to hear from you. Stay tuned for more ways to be a part of this important conversation.
